Father’s
death anniversary falls on March 1. Me and my brother go to a gaushala for donation. Here things are
challenging and cramped for gaumata.
But something is better than nothing. Hundreds of cows get food and shelter at
least. And we can think of improving the conditions as long as cow shelters
exist.
There
is a bull whose front leg is broken from the joint leaving it as a crooked and
unusable stump. It’s a sad sight. The caretaker is from Bihar. He has been
working here for the last five years. He holds a scrubber in hand to give them
a nice scrubbing. He tells the story how the bull got injured. The villagers
bring their cows for mating. This cow was in heat and was tied at a distance.
The farmer then untied the bull. It ran too fast in excitement. Love is
blinding after all. Risky. The bull slipped on the uneven brick flooring in the
compound and met a nasty fall. It broke its leg. Now it’s a very difficult
handicapped life.
Golu,
another bull, is standing nearby. It has won many prizes at cattle fairs. The
last was a first prize of 51,000 rupees at Kurukshetra cattle fair. There are
far more bigger and muscular looking bulls at the cow shelter. But Golu has
beaten all of them here and at other shelters because it has a huge hump which
gives it the USP and the top prize. Thus Golu is a revenue maker. One can feel
that it carriers extra confidence in comparison to other bulls.
